  • innovations in teaching of legal education and development of curriculum, including funding of pilot projects;
  • improving standard of legal education;
  • efforts directed at improvements in professional standards of the legal professionals;
Funding Mechanism
  • The Governing Body shall allocate 4.5% share of income generated on the Fund to Legal Innovations Fund, which shall be expended for the purposes specified in clause (c) of rule 10 of the AJDF Rules.
  • The Governing Body shall invite proposals from educational, research and other institutions or individual researchers or scholars in the manner as may be approved by the Governing Body.
  • The Governing Body shall constitute a committee to scrutinize the proposals, approve funding, monitor progress of work undertaken and approve the final report.
  • The FJA shall be responsible to ensure utilization of the amount in accordance with the approved proposal and furnish half yearly and annual accounts to the Governing Body.
  • The FJA shall submit a result oriented report to the Governing Body regarding the activity undertaken with the amount made available under this window.      

Eligibility Criteria for Organizations/ Individuals

  • Registration certificate
  • Detail of previous donors and projects executed about legal empowerment
  • Details and particulars of office bearers and project executing team (which include at least two lawyers)
  • CNIC, curriculum vitae, two reference letters and evidence of educational qualification and professional experience
  • Organization profile, registered postal address of the NGO/Organization
  • Field of expertise and 3 years latest audited statements
  • Project completion certificates (if any)
  • Any previous research / working ( by researchers)
  • Detail of previous projects with funding organizations/ donors.

Legal Innovations Window

1.      The Governing Body shall allocate 4.5% share of income generated on the Fund to Legal

Performance of the Window:

Since 2005, the window remained inactive but in the Phase-V (2010-2011) of the Access to Justice Development Fund (AJDF), a research project proposal on the title “improving the standards of legal education” was approved by the Governing Body, AJDF for Rs. 1 million.

In addition, refreshing trainings were approved by the Governing Body, AJDF for judges and lawyers at Divisional benches of the provincial High Courts and at Federal Judicial Academy for the judges and lawyers of the Islamabad Capital Territory in the financial year 2013-14.

Furthermore, amount was approved and released for;

·         Training sessions for 100 lawyers at Federal Judicial Academy for the lawyers of High Court Bar Association, Hyderabad,

·         Training sessions for lawyers at Federal Judicial Academy for the lawyers of High Court Bar Association, Rawalpindi, and

·         Training sessions for junior lawyers at High Court Bar Association, Hyderabad.
