Judicial and legal research window

  • Legal and judicial research aimed at improving the delivery of judicial and legal services and the quality of the judgments;
  • Initiatives to reform laws and advocacy related endeavours.
Funding Mechanism
  •  
  • The Governing Body shall allocate 4.5% share of the income generated on the Fund to the Legal and Judicial Research Fund Window, which shall be expended for the purposes specified in clause (e) of rule 10 of the AJDF Rules.
  • The Governing Body shall approve areas and projects requiring research by the institutions or eminent scholars, researchers, experts. It shall invite research proposals from the institutions, eminent scholars, researchers and experts in a manner as may be approved by the Governing Body.
  • The Governing Body shall constitute a committee to scrutinize the proposals, valuate the credentials of the researchers, approve funding, monitor the progress of work undertaken by the concerned individual or agency and approve the final report.
Eligibility Criteria for Organizations/ Individuals
 
  • Registration certificate
  • Detail of previous donors and projects executed about legal empowerment
  • Details and particulars of office bearers and project executing team (which include at least two lawyers)
  • CNIC, curriculum vitae, two reference letters and evidence of educational qualification and professional experience
  • Organization profile, registered postal address of the NGO/Organization
  • Field of expertise and 3 years latest audited statements
  • Project completion certificates (if any)
  • Any previous research / working ( by researchers)
  • Detail of previous projects with funding organizations/ donors.

Accounting Procedures of the Access to Justice Development Fund (AJDF), 2005 for:

Legal and Judicial Research Fund

Performance of the Window:

Judicial and Legal Research Window is also one of the important window used to support the research on legal issues and initiatives to reform laws. The advertisements were made for calling potential project / research proposals from the window. In addition, letters were written to the Bar Councils, Bar Associations, Law Colleges, Universities and other research institutions working of law reform for submission of tentative proposal for funding in the identified areas.

Upto now, only one research project has qualified / recommended by Technical Evaluation Committee of AJDF and approved by the Governing Body, AJDF for funding titled “ Need and establishment of Intellectual Property Right Courts in Pakistan” by Ms. Afshan Zia, Karachi. The research has been completed and is under review with the Members of the TEC

 The Federal and Provincial Judicial Academies window has remained inactive since inception sue to non submission of viable project proposal for funding as it is the additional support apart of regular budget of the Academies. After inclusion of Provincial Judicial Academies in the share of window in June 2014, the scope of the window has been widened and funds allocation will be better utilized.
